Welcome to Willow - Year 2 - MISS KENT
Our class teacher is Miss Kent. Miss Denton teaches us on Wednesdays.
Mrs Parker and Mrs Wilson work in our class too.
We are a very busy class where exciting learning is always taking place.
We follow our school values in all that we do.
Responsibility Respect Care Aspiration Resilience Independence
This Half Term, our whole school value is.......Resilience
We are also working on developing our Leadership Skills.
This half term our enquiry question is, "Can you grow a meal?"
We will be learning all about plants. Plants that we can eat, growing our own plants and designing and making our own sandwiches and containers.
PE is taught on Wednesday afternoon by Miss Denton. Please make sure PE Kits are left in school for the half term. We will send them home if they get wet or dirty. This half term, our outdoor PE sessions are focussing on games.
WE ARE LEARNING...
English: We will be reading non fiction texts about how to grow fruits and vegetables and writing our own non-chronological reports. We will then be looking at the text, 'Oliver's Vegetables' and will be developing our use of descriptive language and conjunctions. We will then move on to food poetry.
Maths: Maths will focus on statistics, fractions and number facts. In maths with Miss Denton we will be looking at Capacity.
Science: Plants and Growing. Can we grow our own edible plant? What do plants need to grow effectively?
Topic: D and T will focus on designing and making a sandwich, where will make our own bread and design a filling using ingredients that can be grown. We will also look at designing and making our own sandwich containers. In RE we will learn about stories from the Bible and Easter.
Computing: We will continue to develop our programming skills using Purple Mash.
Book bags must be brought every day for their daily reading slot whether that be independently or with a teacher. The whole school reading rewards continue as normal with rewards being given for 75 reads. This year we are starting a new and exciting reading programme called, 'My Book Blog'.
Remember, just 10 minutes reading practise every night can really help your child's understanding, fluency and confidence. If you need any advice or support with regards to Accelerated Reader please ask myself or Miss Tyers.
