Welcome to Oak Class - this is our class page:
Mr Ward is our teacher - learning is a journey that we love to take, everyday...
Our topic this term is 'This is me - who are you?'- We shall be learning all about all sorts of things to see and do in Newark - focusing on instructions and explanation texts and other well known genres. We will kick off with a topic launch day where the children will learn about a variety of famous people from the area and what the area has to offer. This topic will help to develop our Science. DT and Art skills - and English writing skills of course!!
Our SCIENCE lessons will be fun as we learn about 'British Science' and how it influences the world around us as well as what difference we can make to the world too...
In English we will be looking at instructional and explanational texts, as well as persuasion. The children will also be given the opportunity to look at many examples of local inventions and their explanantions, as well as what key features of grammar that the children can name and spot! We are also looking at trying to write and perform in the style of other well known instructional texts and performance poets...
Please encourage your children to read their school books to you and to try to read as much as possible to you at home. Little and often can make a real difference - please record the reading of your child in their home school record.
Mr Ward has plenty of comprehension activities available so feel free to ask at any time if you need advice of ways to engage your child into reading at home.
In Maths, we will be focusing on fluency, reasoning and using and applying our knowledge to the number system - with particular focus on addition and subtraction, and revising other areas we haven't looked at for a lomg time, plus looking at SAT-style questions too and of course lots of support in time for SAT's.
It is essential that your child knows their times tables to x12 in Year 6 especially with secondary school appraching fast; any practise at home is encouraged! If you would like any advice on how to do this then please come and see Mr Ward.
With SAT's becoming increasingly closer - it is also ESSENTIAL that the children complete their HOMEWORK activities either at home or during lunch club provided at school.
PE will continue to be on a Friday PM! we will continue with our theme of agility, balance and co-ordination; looking at core strengthening and Tennis whilst trying to include some competition too. Please ensure your child has the correct clothing on these days.
Learning Logs will be set termly.
Spellings will be given out every Monday and tested the following Monday - the children will learn strategies within class for how to apply these spellings.
REMEMBER!!! All children have their user name and passwords for Purple Mash! There's plenty to keep your child busy - and now they also have 'My Book Blog' too!! The children have also just been given new log in's for mathletics!!
If you have any questions, concerns or queries please feel free to contact school to speak to me (Mr Ward) or pop to see me when you can...I am always here for you and the children and will do whatever I can to help!!
