Welcome to Oak Class - this is our class page:
Mr Ward is our teacher - learning is a journey that we love to take everyday...
Our topic this term is 'Can Art communicate?'- We shall be learning all about all sorts of Art work - focusing on Banksy, Da Vinci and other well known artists. We will kick off with a topic launch day where the children will learn about a variety of messages through Art and how to do the same themselves. This topic will help to develop our Music, History, Art and DT skills.
Our SCIENCE lessons will be fun as we learn about 'terrific scientific' and how it influences the world around us as well as all about Evolution and Inheritance and changes that occur...
In English we will be looking at poetry and how it converys a message - Michael Rosen is our inspiration. The children will also be given the opportunity to look at many examples of stories involving many wonderful authors' in detail - looking at action, dialogue and description as well as what key features of grammar the children can name and spot! We are also looking at trying to write and perform in the style of other famous, inspirational poets...
Please encourage your children to read their school books to you and to try to read as much as possible to you at home. Little and often can make a real difference - please record the reading of your child in their home school record.
Mr Ward has plenty of comprehension activities available so feel free to ask at any time if you need advice of ways to engage your child into reading at home.
In Maths, we will be focusing on fluency, reasoning and using and applying our knowledge in problem solving contexts - with particular focus on place value, measure and shape, plus looking at fractions too and of course lots of revision in time for SAT's.
It is essential that your child knows their times tables to x12 in Year 6 especially with secondary school appraching fast; any practise at home is encouraged! If you would like any advice on how to do this then please come and see Mr Ward.
With SAT's becoming increasingly closer - it is also ESSENTIAL that the children complete their HOMEWORK activities either at home or during lunch club provided at school.
PE will continue to be on a Friday PM! we will continue with our theme of agility, balance and co-ordination; looking at core strengthening and Invasion Games whilst trying to include some competition too. Please ensure your child has the correct clothing on these days.
Learning Logs will be set on Thursdays and are due in on Tuesdays.
Spellings will be given out every Monday and tested the following Monday - the children will learn strategies within class for how to apply these spellings.
REMEMBER!!! All children have their user name and passwords for Purple Mash! There's plenty to keep your child busy - and now they also have 'My Book Blog' too!!
If you have any questions, concerns or queries please feel free to contact school to speak to me (Mr Ward) or pop to see me when you can...I am always here for you and the children and will do whatever I can to help!!
