Expectations
Homework should be brought into school every Friday, so we can share our amazing talents with each other. The children are trying hard to achieve their 30 points to gain a well deserved award for their home learning. Please remember though that points can only be awarded if the content and presentation meet expectations of the school.
Reading
Children should read daily to a grown up, at home, for at least 10 minutes a day, please may I ask you to regularly sign their reading diary as evidence of this (reading 5 times a week will automatically earn the children homework points). As a class we are all striving to reach our 75 plus reads, so not only will the children be rewarded for their efforts, but the more reading material they are exposed to, will show an improvement in their use of language in developing their writing. Please remember your child should not only be reading the words on the page, they must be able to understand what they have read. Please encourage them to talk freely about their book and ask them lots of questions. Children are also expected to then log onto Accelerated Reader to quiz themselves about the book they have read. We are trying hard to improve comprehension and understanding.
Spellings
Spellings are taught and reviewed in school every day. With regular revision of spelling strategies and key words, a deep understanding of vocabulary and spelling strategies can be developed. In KS2 spellings will not be sent home and there will be no weekly spelling test. Instead, 2 new words will be introduced and 6 words will reviewed every day. This method of low stake testing and regular revision is proven to lower stress and improve memory for spelling and in turn make children become better spellers.
Accelerated Reader/ TT Rockstars
Your child will be expected to access TT Rockstars (KS2). Also, dependent on the size of the book, quiz on Accelerated Reader weekly.

Book Vending Machine
For children accessing Read Write Inc books in EYFS (Larch): If your child reads 25 times at home, they will receive a token to buy a book from the vending machine.
Reading (Larch class)

We expect your child to be read to by an adult for at least 10 minutes each day. Your child will come home each week with a book in their bedtime book pack. Enclosed in this is their reading diary, where you can record any reading you share with your child at home (this doesn’t have to be the bedtime book but could also be your favourite books from home, the library or a comic etc). Remember to record the reading in the reading diary (name of the book and date).
High Frequency Words (Larch class)
Your child will be given a set of high frequency words to learn each half term (accompanying your child’s reading diary). The expectation is for your child to be able to recognise these words and to be able to read them. Please sign your child’s reading diary every time your child has read them as evidence of this.
Maths – CGP Maths Book
Support your child to complete the Maths activity set each week (the page number will be communicated by your class teacher each Friday). Return the book every Thursday to the class teacher for marking. When receiving the book each Friday, check the previous week’s learning (a ‘tick’ indicates correct learning and an ‘arrow’ symbol requires your child to revisit the question and correct the learning).
Maths – SUMDOG (Larch class)
Download the SUMDOG App, in your App Store, for your device, to register your child. Use the login (in the back of your child’s reading diary). This login is personal to them. Or alternatively, you can visit SUMDOG.com.
Handwriting (Larch class)
Your child has a handwriting pack and a formation guide (letters and numbers), which shows you where the letter and number starts.
Support your child to complete the letter formation in the weekly pack and return the completed sheets in their plastic wallet on Thursdays. Remember to use pincer grip.

Reading
We expect your child to be read to an adult for at least 10 minutes each day and for all reads to be recorded into reading diaries.
Book Vending Machine
For children accessing Read Write Inc books: If your child reads 25 times at home, they will receive a token to buy a book from the vending machine. For children accessing Accelerated Reader Books: If your child passes 5 quizzes, they will receive a raffle ticket. Once children have received 3 raffle tickets, they will receive a token to purchase a book from the vending machine.
Accelerated Reader (Willow & Elm Year 2)
Your child will choose a book from the school library based on their ZPD range that has been based on their Star Reader score. Once your child has read their book, they are expected to quiz on Accelerated Reader. If they pass their quiz, they are able to change their book. Read, Write Inc. (Maple Year 1)
Your child will choose a book from our range of Read, Write Inc. books, based on their current reading level. After every 3 full reads of the same story, children will change their book. Books are expected to be read more than once to build up accuracy, fluency and comprehension.
Maths
Maths Home Learning is due every Thursday to the class teacher for marking and children will receive their new piece of maths Home Learning every Friday.
CGP Maths Book
The maths task set will either be based on the children’s current learning or post/ prior learning. Children are to complete the Maths task set each week (the page number will be communicated on the back of the your child’s CGP Maths Book).
Sumdog
Download the SUMDOG App, in your App Store, for your device, for your child to access maths activities or alternatively, you can visit SUMDOG.com. Children can access a wide range of learning that matches their ability, based on their Sumdog Diagnostic check taken at the end of term, or your child’s class teacher may have set tasks to be completed, which can be accessed in the ‘Task’ tab on Sumdog. If your child’s class teacher sets tasks, this will be communicated on the back of children’s CGP Maths book.
