Nursery admissions at Bishop Alexander

At Bishop Alexander, we are passionate about our next group of life-long learners. From when they arrive to when they leave school, we encourage our pupils to become independent, creative, responsible and confident young people.

We offer our parents/carers 30-hour-a-week nursery places. Depending on your eligibility, these places may be fully funded.

The 30 hours will run from 8:45am to 2:45pm, Monday to Friday.

Stay and play option

We recognise that a 2.45pm finish time may cause issues for those who are picking up older siblings in the academy. If this is the case, please discuss with Mr Charlesworth the possibility of a ‘stay and play’ option, where you can wait with your nursery child until 3.20pm.

The lunch period will be included in the six hours, and will be from 11:45am to 12:15pm. You will be required to provide your child with a healthy packed lunch, or we can provide a school meal for an additional payment in line with the cost of the rest of the academy (currently £2.60/day).

What is included in the 30 hour provision?
  • For working families in England
  • For three and four-year-old children (from the term after they turn three)
  • 30 hours of free childcare or early education for 38 weeks
  • A total of 1,140 hours per year that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare provider
  • Available during school term time

Funding information

If you are interested and think you may be eligible, please visit the Childcare Choices website  for further information. Here you will find what support the Government can provide towards childcare costs.

Your eligibility depends on:

  • If you are working
  • Your income (and your partner’s income, if you have one)
  • Your child’s age and circumstances
  • Your immigration status

You can apply for this funding by visiting the Government website:

Once your application has been approved, you’ll get a code for 30 hours of free childcare. It is important that you pass this code on to the academy (further details will follow).

We were recently informed that we retained our ‘Good’ grading following an Ofsted inspection in March 2023. This speaks to the determination and application evident throughout our school. With our next intake of pupils, we will strive to maintain this momentum and continue to cultivate an exceptional learning space for young people.
