Bishop Alexander Academy Welcomes New Headteacher

Pupils and staff at Bishop Alexander Academy have welcomed Mr Andy Adlington as the school’s new Headteacher.

Mr Adlington brings 15 years’ experience in education and joins the school from a large school in Lincoln, where he was Assistant Headteacher and Executive SENCO (special educational needs coordinator). He began his career as a primary school teacher in 2011 and has since held a range of teaching and pastoral roles, giving him valuable experience of helping pupils navigate this important stage in their education.

Mr Adlington takes the helm from former headteacher, Nicky Spencelayh, who retired after 12 years leading the school.

His immediate priority is to ensure that every child receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive, with an excellent curriculum that enables every pupil to feel included and valued. Having seen from his early days at the school how highly it is valued by the local community, he is keen to build on these strong foundations. A key part of his vision is to strengthen the relationship between the school and its families, creating more opportunities for parents and the wider community to be involved in school life.

“I am very proud and excited to have joined Bishop Alexander Academy as Headteacher. Having worked in education for over 15 years, I know how important it is for every child to feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their best. I’m looking forward to getting to know our pupils, families and wider community, and to working alongside our staff to build on the many strengths of the school.”

Helen Tunney, Director of Primary Schools for L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, said:

“We’d like to thank Nicky for everything she has done for the school. She has made a real difference to the lives of our children and to the wider school community, and we wish her every happiness for the future. We’re delighted to welcome Mr Adlington to the school and are excited about the experience and perspective he will bring to the role. With his background across both primary and secondary education, he is well placed to build on the school’s strengths and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.”
